USC to build 4 container ships to work in North–South corridor

MOSCOW, Dec 16 (PRIME) -- Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation’s (USC) will start construction of four container ships to work on the routes of the international North–South transport corridor in 2023, CEO Alexei Rakhmanov told Rossiya 24 TV channel on Friday.

“Construction will start in the middle of next year because the working design documentation is already completed... This is why at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, they will start working on the routes,” he said.

The company plans to make this container line regular, as backloading is also important for the container business, he added.

The international North–South transport corridor is a multimodal route from Saint Petersburg to the Indian port of Mumbai, which is an alternative to the sea route connecting Europe, the Persian Gulf countries and the Indian Ocean through the Suez Canal.
